That said, this Vancouver four piece undoubtedly has more in common with 90\u2019s alt-rock a la Sugar\/Bob Mould, or even H\u00fcsker D\u00fc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/slip-ons.ca\/slip-ons\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/breaktime3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/slip-ons.ca\/slip-ons\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/breaktime3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4049\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The band\u2019s sophomore EP, \u201cOvertime\u201d is due February 20th, 2026, self-released on the Scamindy label (Cobraside Distribution). Physical copies will be available on translucent 12\u201d orange crush vinyl, and streams will be available on <a href=\"https:\/\/slip-ons.bandcamp.com\/\">Bandcamp<\/a>, and selected DSPs (no Spotify).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The record takes inspiration from the sudden death hockey period as extended metaphor for \u201c$hit getting real\u201d. On the more political lyrics, singer Brock Pytel comments, \u201cI made it all the way through side A without a single song about a breakup!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recorded by John Raham at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afterlifestudiosvancouver.com\/history\">Afterlife<\/a> (formerly Mushroom Studios), \u201cOvertime\u201d was mixed by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dave_Ogilvie\">Dave Ogilvie<\/a> in Vancouver and mastered by <a href=\"https:\/\/ronanchrismurphy.com\/\">Ronan Chris Murphy<\/a> in Western Massachusetts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/halola.tv\/\">Halo Creative<\/a> (LA) is hard at work animating a video for \u201cOvertime\u201d to follow up their 2024 effort for \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/QhX2KFzvPeM?si=YG8r6TYrP--4zLze\">Graystone<\/a>\u201d, named for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/graystonehall\/\">Graystone Hall<\/a>, an all-ages venue in the 80\u2019s where Detroit punks could have seen anyone from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diekreuzen.com\/\">Die Kreuzen<\/a> to Black Flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Record release shows are happening in Victoria and Vancouver (March 6-7) with support from <a href=\"https:\/\/liquidlight.bandcamp.com\/music\">Liquidlight<\/a> (Portland) and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vic_Bondi\">Vic Bondi<\/a> (Seattle). More weekend warrior touring will follow throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Slips frontman Brock Pytel first appeared in the late eighties as singing drummer of Montreal pop-punks, Doughboys. After two (acclaimed) LPs and a few years of fervent North American tours (most notably with Descendents, ALL) Brock left the band to practice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhamma.org\/en\/schedules\/schgiri\">Vipassana meditation<\/a> and study P\u0101li language in Igatpuri, India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI had a habit of going to extremes. At the time it never occurred to me that I could deepen my practise of meditation AND play in a touring punk rock band\u2026 It was just, \u201cI\u2019m going to shave my head and become a monk.\u201d\u201d<sup data-fn=\"b192bdb7-b861-4fe1-bb0a-2d0238abdfc4\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#b192bdb7-b861-4fe1-bb0a-2d0238abdfc4\" id=\"b192bdb7-b861-4fe1-bb0a-2d0238abdfc4-link\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brock and former Sarah MacLachlan bass player, Brian Minato, first collaborated on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/music.apple.com\/us\/song\/apart\/555184912\">Apart<\/a>\u201d, digitally released in 2012. After recruiting <a href=\"https:\/\/thespitfires.bandcamp.com\/\">Spitfires<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mongooseeastvan.com\/\">Mongoose<\/a> veteran, Rob \u201cShockk\u201d Matharu on guitar, drummer Shane Wilson drunkenly vowed to join the band at all costs after seeing them covering Replacements one night at Lanalou\u2019s.
