If you accused SLIP~ons of sounding like a punk rock version of Kings of Leon, they probably wouldn\u2019t deny it! That said, this Vancouver four piece undoubtedly has more in common with 90\u2019s alt-rock a la Sugar\/Bob Mould, or even H\u00fcsker D\u00fc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band\u2019s sophomore EP, \u201cOvertime\u201d was self-released on the Scamindy label (Cobraside Distribution) February 20th, 2026 to solid reviews and radio play<\/a>. Physical copies are available on translucent 12\u201d orange crush vinyl, and streams are available on Bandcamp<\/a>, and selected DSPs (no Spotify).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The record takes inspiration from the sudden death hockey period as extended metaphor for \u201c$hit getting real\u201d. On the more political lyrics, singer Brock Pytel comments, \u201cI made it all the way through side A without a single song about a breakup!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recorded by John Raham at Afterlife<\/a> (formerly Mushroom Studios), \u201cOvertime\u201d was mixed by Dave Ogilvie<\/a> in Vancouver and mastered by Ronan Chris Murphy<\/a> in Western Massachusetts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott Gordon and Sherise Seven of Halo Creative<\/a> (LA) animated a video for \u201cOvertime<\/a>\u201d to follow up their 2024 effort for \u201cGraystone<\/a>\u201d, named for the Graystone Hall<\/a>, an all-ages venue in the 80\u2019s where Detroit punks could have seen anyone from Die Kreuzen<\/a> to Black Flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Record release shows happened in Victoria and Vancouver (March 6-7) with support from Liquidlight<\/a> (Portland) and Vic Bondi<\/a> (Seattle). Alberta shows<\/a> are up next with Minneapolis buddies, Rad Owl<\/a> and Edmonton’s own Cutoffs<\/a> supporting. More weekend warrior touring will follow throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slips frontman Brock Pytel first appeared in the late eighties as singing drummer of Montreal pop-punks, Doughboys<\/a>. After two (acclaimed) LPs and a few years of fervent North American tours (most notably with Descendents, ALL) Brock left the band to practice Vipassana meditation<\/a> and study P\u0101li language in Igatpuri, India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI had a habit of going to extremes. At the time it never occurred to me that I could deepen my practise of meditation AND play in a touring punk rock band\u2026 It was just, \u201cI\u2019m going to shave my head and become a monk.\u201d\u201d1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brock and former Sarah MacLachlan bass player, Brian Minato, first collaborated on \u201cApart<\/a>\u201d, digitally released in 2012. After recruiting Spitfires<\/a>\/Mongoose<\/a> veteran, Rob \u201cShockk\u201d Matharu on guitar, drummer Shane Wilson drunkenly vowed to join the band at all costs after seeing them covering Replacements one night at Lanalou\u2019s. He replaced OG drummer Adam Fink (Actors<\/a>) soon after.<\/p>\n\n\n
